The Bulimic Gives Herself Pneumonia

Alex Everette

The bile has burned your tongue,
and you never stop
to let it heal.

You’re so tired,
legs trembling under the weight of storms.
Somewhere beneath the clouds
hiding in the mist
you find yourself.
When you’re sick
a doctor will tell you
to get fluids.
When you’re sick
a doctor will tell you
to stay out of the rain.

But on your lips
it feels like healing
and on your tongue
it tastes like life.
