The Extremist

Michael Neal Morris

She’s like her mother,
a girl of extremes.
One moment she screams
joy or pain every other
word or move made
in her direction. Then
she holds me like the wind
cannot possibly fade
beneath her kite.
I can’t let her know
that I can’t go
into her headlong flight.
But I hope when she lands
I’ll have steady hands.
