Young Women

Lauren Zlabinger

We begin too early
loving with trusting hearts
and believing in our minds
young love will never die.

Young girls,
so naïve and blind
who give away their skin
to boys who tell them lies.

With wisdom comes a woman
once young and once naïve
who learned how different love is
at thirteen and twenty-three.
